Phil Mickelson (shoulder injury) ruled out of LIV opener
Phil Mickelson sustained a minor shoulder injury while working out in the gym and will be absent from the LIV Golf season opener in Saudi Arabia this week.
The 54-year-old golfer announced the news on social media on Monday.
Ollie Schniederjans will take Mickelson's place in the LIV tournament this week, joining the HyFlyers team as they compete in LIV Golf Riyadh starting on Thursday. The HyFlyers have yet to secure a team victory.
Mickelson stated that he plans to participate in the LIV Golf Adelaide event at The Grange Golf Club in Australia next weekend.
"I am disappointed that I will not be able to participate in the season opener, but I am looking forward to playing in Adelaide," he said.
Schniederjans, a 31-year-old from Georgia, narrowly missed earning a full LIV card at the LIV Golf Promotions event last year but was granted the opportunity to play in 10 events in The International Series in 2025.
He took advantage of this opportunity on Sunday, winning The International Series India by four strokes over U.S. Open champion and LIV star Bryson DeChambeau. Two other LIV players, Joaquin Niemann and Abraham Ancer, finished one stroke behind in third place.
