Angela Stanford is ascending to the captain's seat for the U.S. team in the 2026 Solheim Cup, which will face off against Europe in the Netherlands next year.

Stanford, 47, participated in the Solheim Cup six times as a player and served as vice captain in each of the last three events.

"I am incredibly grateful to be chosen as the next American captain for the Solheim Cup and join the ranks of my idols in the sport. I have always believed that I represent more than just myself on the LPGA Tour, and there is no greater honor than representing your country," Stanford stated in an LPGA announcement on Thursday morning. "I consider this to be the pinnacle of my career, and I am eagerly anticipating leading our players to the Netherlands in 2026."

Stanford is taking over for Stacy Lewis, who led the U.S. team in the previous two Solheim Cups.

"Angela Stanford will undoubtedly be an exceptional captain for the U.S. Team at the 2026 Solheim Cup," said Liz Moore, interim LPGA commissioner.

"Angela has always been a shining light both on and off the course, a true leader, and a devoted teammate. It is now her turn to take the reins of the U.S. Team, and I have full confidence that she will guide her squad to a successful week in the Netherlands."

Stanford, a native of Texas, joined the LPGA Tour in 2001. She has achieved seven career LPGA victories, including one major - the 2018 Evian Championship - before retiring from full-time competitive golf after the 2024 season.

The next Solheim Cup will take place from September 11-13, 2026, at Bernardus Golf in Cromvoirt, Netherlands.
