'Delaware State in Disarray following Failed Trip to Hawaii'
The Delaware State football team's lengthy journey to take on Hawaii in their season opener has just become even longer.
According to the Star-Advertiser in Honolulu, the Hornets missed their scheduled 10.5-hour flight to the city due to a "bus mishap" while trying to reach John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. A representative for Delaware State told the publication that they are currently "working on a solution" to transport the team to Hawaii.
The game is set to take place on Saturday at 6 p.m. local time. This will be the first time the Rainbow Warriors have faced an HBCU team since their match against Prairie View A&M in 1979, and it will also be their first-ever meeting with Delaware State.
Hawaii has an impressive 20-game winning streak against FCS teams dating back to 2011, with an average margin of victory of 25.9 points per game.
In the 2023 season, Hawaii finished with a record of 5-8 (3-5 in the Mountain West Conference), while Delaware State ended with a record of 1-10 (0-5 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference).
