Preview and Prediction

Two squads projected to be on opposite ends of the Big 12 rankings at the beginning of the season will meet on Saturday night in Stillwater, Oklahoma as Arizona State travels to face Oklahoma State.

The Sun Devils (5-2, 2-2) were selected to finish at the bottom of the conference in their first year as a member of the Big 12 in the preseason media poll. However, the Cowboys (3-5, 0-5) currently sit in last place, despite being predicted to finish third behind Utah and Kansas State.

"They possess talented players, and their location in the country is very appealing for transfers, which they have taken advantage of," explained Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy regarding Arizona State's success. "They have found success in that area and have done a commendable job."

One of the transfers, in his second season with the Sun Devils, is former Sacramento State running back Cam Skattebo, who ranks third in the Big 12 in rushing with 848 yards on 150 carries and 10 touchdowns.

Ollie Gordon II, Oklahoma State's highly-touted running back, currently sits at ninth place with 568 yards on 135 carries and eight touchdowns.

According to Pro Football Focus, Skattebo also ranks seventh nationally in missed tackles forced with 49.

"He's the driving force behind their team," Gundy stated. "If you want to slow them down, you better be able to tackle him."

Arizona State coach Kenny Dillingham announced that quarterback Sam Leavitt is expected to return from a rib injury he sustained during the Sun Devils' victory over then-No. 16 Utah on October 11th.

Leavitt was unable to play in Arizona State's most recent game, a 24-14 loss to Cincinnati on October 19th.

The Michigan State transfer has completed 90 of 152 passes for 1,166 yards, eight touchdowns, and four interceptions.

"He has been cleared to play," Dillingham confirmed. "He is eager to get back on the field. He has been working hard to get back, so we will see how things go."

Gordon, a preseason pick for Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, dismissed rumors on Monday that he plans to sit out the rest of the season in order to focus on the upcoming NFL draft.

"My mother always taught me to finish what I start," Gordon declared. "Who am I to give up on my team just because our season isn't going as we had hoped?"
