Jeremiah Kelly, a freshman offensive lineman at Cincinnati, passed away unexpectedly at his residence early Tuesday morning.

The cause of death was not disclosed in separate announcements made by the Big 12 Conference and University of Cincinnati, both confirming Kelly's death. He had joined the team as an early enrollee and was practicing at center during spring practice. In the previous season, he played a key role in helping Avon (Ohio) High School win the Division II state championship.

According to head coach Scott Satterfield, "The Bearcats football family is devastated by the sudden loss of this exceptional young man. In the short time he spent with our team, he made a significant impact both on and off the field. My thoughts and prayers are with the Kelly family and all those who had the privilege of knowing Jeremiah."

Kelly was a standout player for the undefeated Avon Eagles, who won their first state championship last season. He was recognized as all-conference and all-district, and was also voted as the top offensive lineman in the Southwestern Conference. Despite also playing on the defensive line in high school, Kelly was focusing on the offensive line for the Bearcats.

John Cunningham, the athletic director at Cincinnati, expressed his condolences in a statement, saying, "Today, we have suffered a devastating loss. All of us at UC are sending our love and prayers to the Kelly family. We will do everything in our power to support them and our Bearcats student-athletes during this difficult time."
