'Rutgers suffers loss of LB Mohamed Toure due to torn ACL'
Rutgers' linebacker Mohamed Toure will not be able to play in the upcoming season due to a torn ACL, as announced by coach Greg Schiano on Tuesday.
Toure was expected to be a starting linebacker and a crucial part of the Scarlet Knights' defense in 2024. He has participated in 37 games for Rutgers since 2019 and has recorded 4.5 sacks in each of his last three seasons (2020, 2021, 2023).
In addition, Toure was also unable to play in the 2022 season due to an ACL tear.
Last fall, he was named a semifinalist for the College Sports Communicators' Comeback Player of the Year award, as he made 93 tackles (9.5 for loss) with 4.5 sacks and an interception. Toure was also included in the 2024 Butkus Award watch list for the top linebacker in the nation.
In the Big Ten preseason media poll, Rutgers was chosen as the ninth team out of 18. The Scarlet Knights will begin their season at home on August 29th against FCS opponent Howard.
