LSU's starting safety and team captain, Greg Brooks, underwent an operation to have a large tumor extracted from his brain.

The Brooks family declared on Wednesday that the biopsy results are yet to be revealed after the surgery which took place on Friday.

We are immensely thankful for the medical staff who are aiding Greg through these hardships and for the compassion and love that has been expressed by many in the Louisiana, Arkansas and national sports communities. This means a great deal to us at this trying time. Greg is still fighting, and we are waiting for more information on the extent of his struggle. His remarkable strength and character give us assurance, but we also know that he needs our assistance now more than ever.

Brooks was not available for last Saturday's game against Mississippi State due to a medical emergency, as LSU coach Brian Kelly mentioned at his Monday press conference, but he did not provide any details out of respect for the player's privacy.

The fifth-year senior is from Louisiana and transferred to LSU from Arkansas in 2022. He started 13 of 14 games last season and was fifth on the team with 66 tackles.

Brooks played high school football in Harvey, La., near New Orleans. His father, Greg Brooks Sr., played one season at Michigan and three seasons at Southern Miss. He was a sixth-round pick in the 2004 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals.
