"Kalen DeBoer Leads No. 1 Alabama to Victory Over Georgia"
After one month as the new head coach of Alabama, Kalen DeBoer achieved a couple of long-awaited goals by defeating Georgia in a thrilling comeback that puts the Crimson Tide in control of the SEC.
DeBoer's first game in the SEC was an instant classic. The Crimson Tide scored 28 points on their first 23 plays and ultimately secured the win with quarterback Jalen Milroe's second touchdown pass with just over two minutes remaining.
"Continue to be proud of the team and the preparation we put in," DeBoer stated on Monday. "It's evident in these players. They have a desire to be great. I'm proud of them."
Following their 41-34 victory over Georgia on Saturday night, Alabama is now the top-ranked team in college football. Milroe had an impressive performance, completing 75% of his passes and scoring two rushing touchdowns. However, the team quickly shifted their focus to their upcoming game against Vanderbilt (2-2).
"We are constantly striving to improve. What happened in the past will have no impact on Saturday's game," said Alabama's offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan. "There is no carryover - yards, points, completions. In this conference and at this level of college football, each game is a new challenge."
Defensive coordinator Kane Wommack emphasized the importance of making Georgia's quarterback, Carson Beck, uncomfortable throughout the week leading up to the game. However, he expressed frustration on Monday about blowing a 30-7 lead and not being able to stop the Bulldogs on fourth down. Despite this, he praised his defense for not giving up and ultimately securing the win.
Freshman cornerback Zabien Brown made a significant defensive play in the game, according to Wommack.
"I told the defense that no one in that room will ever forget that moment. I give high praise to Brown for staying in the fight," Wommack said. "This experience has brought us closer together as a team."
Vanderbilt had a bye week to recover from their close loss to Missouri in a double-overtime game. They have not scored a touchdown against Alabama since 2007.
Alabama has won 23 consecutive games against Vanderbilt, with their last loss being in 1984 (30-21).
