Iowa CB Jermari Harris Chooses to Sit Out Remainder of Season: Report
Iowa's Jermari Harris, a cornerback, has decided to sit out the remainder of the 2024 season in order to prepare for the NFL draft, as reported by 247Sports.com.
The 6-foot-1 sixth-year senior, hailing from Chicago, has tallied 27 tackles, three picks, and a team-leading seven pass breakups in 10 games for the Hawkeyes this year. This includes a pick-6 in a 38-21 victory over Troy earlier in the season.
Iowa (6-4, 4-3 Big Ten) will face Maryland on Saturday and then wrap up their regular season at home against Nebraska on November 29th. The Hawkeyes have already secured a spot in a bowl game, so Harris will likely miss a total of three games.
After sitting out the entire 2022 season due to an ankle injury, Harris was suspended for two games the following year for his involvement in a gambling investigation involving Iowa athletics. However, he emerged as the top cornerback for the Hawkeyes and was awarded the team's comeback player of the year after recording 42 tackles, one interception, and eight pass breakups.
Harris will end his college career with 105 tackles and eight interceptions.
