"Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers Experiences Partial Shoulder Dislocation, Awaiting Examination Results"
Shohei Ohtani, the designated hitter for the Los Angeles Dodgers, departed the field accompanied by a member of the medical team after being thrown out during a stolen-base attempt to close the seventh inning of the Dodgers' 4-2 victory over the New York Yankees in Game 2 of the World Series on Saturday.
Ohtani drew a walk against Clay Holmes and was subsequently caught stealing by Yankees catcher Austin Wells. He remained on the ground, favoring his left arm, as the Yankees players exited the field.
Ohtani's debut in the World Series has been relatively uneventful thus far. In Game 2, he went 0-for-3 with a walk, following a 1-for-5 performance with a run scored in Game 1.
In his first season with the Dodgers, after signing a 10-year contract worth $700 million with heavy deferrals, Ohtani became the first player in major league history to achieve a 50-50 season. He finished the season with 54 home runs and 59 stolen bases.
Throughout his seven seasons in the major leagues, the first six of which were with the Los Angeles Angels, Ohtani has maintained a career batting average of .282 and an OPS of .945, with 225 home runs and 567 RBIs. He was also named the American League MVP in 2021 and 2023.
As a pitcher, Ohtani has a record of 38-19 with a 3.01 ERA in 86 career starts for the Angels. However, he did not pitch at all this season due to undergoing surgery on his right elbow during the offseason.
