Retired All-Star Rico Carty passes away at 85
Former top-10 MVP finalist Rico Carty, who spent 15 seasons with six different teams, passed away on Saturday in the Dominican Republic, according to the newspaper Listin Diario. Carty was 85 years old.
In 1964, Carty was the runner-up for National League Rookie of the Year, losing to Dick Allen. He began his career with the Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves and was selected to the All-Star Game in 1970 as a write-in candidate.
Carty was also recognized in 10th place for NL MVP after the 1970 season, when he hit .366 and won the NL batting title.
Following nine seasons in the NL, Carty played for seven seasons in the American League, recording a .299 batting average with 204 home runs and 890 RBIs in 1,651 games.
