Reports: White Sox to name Will Venable their next manager

The Chicago White Sox are prepared to announce Will Venable as their new manager.
Numerous sources have revealed that the former outfielder has been selected by general manager Chris Getz to take over for Pedro Grifol, who was let go in August during the White Sox's historically disastrous season, and interim manager Grady Sizemore.
In the 2024 season, the White Sox finished with a record of 41-121, setting a new record for the most losses in a single season in modern baseball history.
Venable, who just turned 42 on Tuesday, has spent the last two years as the assistant manager for the Texas Rangers, learning under the guidance of Bruce Bochy, who has led four teams to World Series championships.
A native of California, Venable played nine seasons (2008-16) in the major leagues for the San Diego Padres, Rangers, and Los Angeles Dodgers. He had a batting average of .249 in 967 games.
Following his playing career, he also served as a coach for the Chicago Cubs (2018-20) and Boston Red Sox (2021-22).
