"Probable IL Placement for Yankees' Right-Handed Pitcher Clarke Schmidt Due to Shoulder Injury"

Probable placement on injured list for Yankees right-handed pitcher Clarke Schmidt due to shoulder injury

It has been reported by multiple sources that Clarke Schmidt, a right-handed pitcher for the New York Yankees, will most likely start the season on the injured list due to shoulder fatigue.

The 29-year-old starting pitcher stated that if he were to take his first turn in the rotation, it would "handcuff" the team because of his limited pitch count.

Schmidt mentioned that he felt well after his 32-pitch live batting practice session on Thursday, following his scratch from his scheduled start on Monday.

Last season, Schmidt had a record of 5-5 with a career-low 2.85 ERA in 16 starts. He struck out 93 batters and walked 30 in 85 1/3 innings. In the postseason, he had a record of 0-1 with a 5.25 ERA in three starts, including a loss in Game 3 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Selected in the first round of the 2017 draft by the Yankees, Schmidt has a career record of 19-20 with a 3.95 ERA and two saves in 83 games (53 starts) over five seasons.
