Cubs secure LHP Drew Pomeranz in trade with Mariners

The Seattle Mariners have traded left-handed pitcher Drew Pomeranz to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for cash considerations.
According to the Cubs, the 36-year-old reliever, who has not played in the majors since 2021, will join Triple-A Iowa.
Pomeranz signed a minor league contract with Seattle on March 27 and had a 4.66 ERA and two saves in nine games with Triple-A Tacoma.
In 2019, Pomeranz had a 2.39 ERA in 25 games for the Milwaukee Brewers while current Cubs manager Craig Counsell was at the helm.
Throughout his career, Pomeranz has a record of 48-58 with a 3.91 ERA and nine saves in 289 games (140 starts) with the Colorado Rockies (2011-13), Oakland Athletics (2014-15), San Diego Padres (2016, 2020-21), Boston Red Sox (2016-18), San Francisco Giants (2019) and Brewers (2019).
Although he was an All-Star in 2016, Pomeranz missed the 2022 and 2023 seasons due to multiple elbow surgeries.
