Breaking News: Rays and Ha-Seong Kim Reach 2-Year Agreement

Announcement: Rays and Ha-Seong Kim Reach 2-Year Agreement

According to reports from ESPN and the Tampa Bay Times, the Tampa Bay Rays have reached an agreement with Ha-Seong Kim to serve as their shortstop in 2025.

The contract is for two years and is valued at $29 million, with the option for Kim to opt out after the first season. If he chooses to stay, he will earn $13 million in 2025 and $16 million in 2026. Additionally, he has the opportunity to earn an extra $2 million in incentives this season.

Kim, who is 29 years old, is currently recovering from shoulder surgery and is expected to return to the field in May.

After declining his mutual $8 million option with the San Diego Padres in November, Kim became a free agent.

Unfortunately, Kim's 2024 season was cut short due to a shoulder injury he sustained while diving back to first base on August 18. It was later revealed that he had torn his labrum in his throwing shoulder. Despite this setback, Kim still managed to hit .233 with 11 home runs, 47 RBIs, and 22 stolen bases in 121 games.

During his four seasons with the Padres, Kim became a fan favorite and had a batting average of .242 with 47 home runs, 200 RBIs, and 78 stolen bases in 540 games. He is also known for his exceptional defensive skills and won a Gold Glove award in 2023.
