"Atlanta's Right-Handed Pitcher Spencer Strider Placed on 15-Day Injured List for Hamstring Injury"

"Braves Place RHP Spencer Strider on 15-Day Injured List for Hamstring Injury"

In less than a week since his season debut, Spencer Strider, the right-handed pitcher for the Atlanta Braves, has been placed on the 15-day injured list. This was due to a strained right hamstring that he sustained while playing catch earlier in the day.

The Braves have made the move retroactive to Friday and have called up Michael Petersen, a right-hander from Triple-A Gwinnett, to take Strider's spot on the roster.

Last season, Strider missed most of the games due to Tommy John surgery. However, in his season debut against the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday, he pitched five innings and gave up two runs. Despite his efforts, the Braves lost 3-1. Strider threw 97 pitches, struck out five and walked one while allowing five hits.

Strider, who hails from Columbus, Ohio, is considered one of the most promising young pitchers in the game. In 2023, he had an impressive record of 20-5 with a 3.86 ERA in 186 2/3 innings. He also led the league with 281 strikeouts, earning him a spot in his first All-Star campaign. He finished fourth in the NL Cy Young Award voting that year. In 2022, he came in second in the NL Rookie of the Year race with an 11-5 record, a 2.67 ERA, and 202 strikeouts in 131 2/3 innings.

Since being drafted by the Braves in the fourth round in 2020, Strider has played for the team for five seasons. He has a record of 32-11 with a 3.47 ERA in 68 games (55 starts). He has also recorded 500 strikeouts and 110 walks in 334 2/3 innings.
