The Oakland Athletics are finalizing a trade to acquire left-handed pitcher Jeffrey Springs from the Tampa Bay Rays, according to multiple media reports on Saturday.

As reported by the Tampa Bay Times, the Rays will also receive an additional player in the deal, while sending right-handed pitcher Joe Boyle, first baseman/outfielder Will Simpson, minor-league right-hander Jacob Watters, and a competitive balance round draft pick to the A's.

The A's, who are set to play in Sacramento for the next three seasons before relocating to Las Vegas, recently bolstered their pitching staff by signing right-hander Luis Severino to a three-year, $67 million contract.

Springs, 32, had a record of 2-2 with a 3.27 ERA in seven games (all starts) last season. He was placed on the injured reserve with left elbow fatigue on September 8 and did not pitch in any more games.

In his career, Springs has a record of 23-12 with a 3.39 ERA in 145 appearances (37 starts) for the Texas Rangers (2018-19), Boston Red Sox (2020), and Rays.

Boyle, 25, had a record of 3-6 with a 6.42 ERA in 13 games (10 starts) for the Athletics last season. He has a career record of 5-6 with a 5.23 ERA in 16 games (13 starts) for the A's.

Simpson, 23, has yet to make his major league debut. He spent last season playing for Double-A Midland and High-A Lansing, where he batted a combined .282 with 18 home runs and 90 RBIs in 127 games.

Watters, 23, had a record of 7-3 with a 5.23 ERA in 18 games (10 starts) split between Lansing and Triple-A Las Vegas.
