"Angels' Third Baseman Anthony Rendon (back) Reinstated to the Disabled List"

'Injured List Welcomes Back Angels' 3B Anthony Rendon (Back)'

Frequently-injured third baseman for the Los Angeles Angels, Anthony Rendon, is once again not playing.

On Tuesday, the team put Rendon on the injured list for 10 days, going back to July 27, due to inflammation in his lower back.

This season, Rendon, who is 34 years old, has only been in 33 games. He was absent for 2 and a half months because of a sprained hamstring, and then came back in early July to play 14 games before sitting out on Saturday and Sunday. He can come back on August 6.

This year, he has no home runs, 6 RBIs, and a batting average of .227.

Since he joined the Angels in December 2019, signing a contract for 7 years and $245 million, Rendon has never played more than 58 games in a season. Before that, he played for the Washington Nationals from 2013-2019, hitting .290 with 136 home runs in 916 games. With the Angels, he has a batting average of .245 and 22 home runs in 233 games.

To fill Rendon's spot on the roster, the Angels called up Michael Stefanic from Triple-A Salt Lake. The 28-year-old infielder had a batting average of .389 with 2 home runs and 33 RBIs, and an OPS of .966 in 40 games with Salt Lake. In June, he played 10 games with the Angels, hitting 6-for-31 with 4 RBIs.

On Tuesday, the Angels also made other moves, including acquiring right-handed pitcher Mike Baumann from the San Francisco Giants for future considerations, and trading reliever Luis Garcia to the Boston Red Sox for 4 prospects: infielder/outfielder Matthew Lugo, infielder Niko Kavadas, and pitchers Ryan Zeferjahn and Yeferson Vargas.
