Preview and Prediction

Starting pitcher Bobby Miller makes his season debut as the Los Angeles Dodgers face the Colorado Rockies in the final game of their three-game series on Wednesday.

Last season, Miller faced early struggles and dealt with a shoulder injury, leading to a demotion to Triple-A. Despite being a long shot for the Opening Day rotation this year, he was hit in the head by a line drive during his first spring training outing, causing further setbacks.

After going through concussion protocol, Miller resumed his preparation for the season and had a 2.25 ERA in three minor league appearances. However, he also had 11 walks and will need to make adjustments to improve his performance. The Dodgers will have to make a roster move in order to activate Miller for Wednesday's game.

With Landon Knack currently in the rotation as a replacement for the injured Blake Snell, Miller will serve as the team's occasional sixth starter. The Dodgers plan to give Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Roki Sasaki a week between starts when possible.

In his two career starts against the Rockies, Miller has a 1-0 record with a 4.73 ERA. The Dodgers are looking to sweep the series after a 6-2 victory on Tuesday, with Will Smith hitting a three-run home run and Tommy Edman recording four hits.

Smith discussed the team's recent struggles and their approach at the plate, which has led to success in the past two games. The Rockies will send German Marquez (0-2, 4.60 ERA) to the mound, who has only made nine starts in the past three seasons due to injuries.

Marquez had a strong season debut, but has given up a combined 10 runs in his last two starts. In his career, he has a 3-5 record with a 3.75 ERA against the Dodgers. The Rockies offense has been struggling, but showed signs of life with five runs in the first two games of the series after being shut out in their previous series against the San Diego Padres.

Manager Bud Black is relying on young talent and remaining patient as the team looks to turn things around. He believes that playing in tough games against teams like the Dodgers will ultimately benefit the team in the long run.

In Tuesday's game, Jacob Stallings had a two-run double for the Rockies, but the offense struggled against the Dodgers' bullpen, which recorded eight strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings.

Colorado Rockies vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Recap APR 16TH 2025

Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman hit home runs in a seven-run first inning and the Los Angeles Dodgers held on for an 8-7 victory Wednesday to complete a three-game home sweep over the Colorado Rockies.

Ohtani also had an RBI single in the first inning when the Dodgers sent 12 batters to the plate. But Los Angeles right-hander Bobby Miller struggled in his first start of the season, giving up six runs on eight hits in three innings with seven strikeouts.

Freeman added a double to go along with his homer as Los Angeles improved to 10-2 at home this season. Andy Pages drove in three runs for the Dodgers.

Michael Toglia hit a grand slam and Mickey Moniak followed with his own home run for the Rockies, who saw their losing streak reach six games for the second time this season.

Colorado starter German Marquez (0-3) did not make it out of the first inning, giving up seven runs on six hits and a walk while recording two outs. Marquez's fourth start of the season matched his total from his previous two years following multiple elbow injuries.

In a game that included 13 total runs in the first three innings, the Rockies went on top 1-0 in the first on a double from Kyle Farmer.

The Dodgers started their big first inning with Ohtani and Freeman home runs within the first three batters. Pages added a two-run single, and Austin Barnes delivered a two-run double before Ohtani hit his RBI single for a 7-1 advantage.

The Rockies stormed back in the third with two singles and a walk before Toglia took Miller deep to center field for his second career grand slam. Moniak followed with a home run to left field to cut the Colorado deficit to 7-6.

The Dodgers wedged some breathing room in the fifth when Max Muncy singled off Luis Peralta, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Pages single.

Ben Casparius (1-0) allowed one run over three innings of relief for Los Angeles, while left-hander Tanner Scott pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his sixth save.
