Seattle Mariners vs. Cincinnati Reds Pick & Prediction APRIL 17th 2025

Preview and Prediction
The Cincinnati Reds are determined to establish a fresh winning streak and secure their third consecutive series victory as they prepare to face the Seattle Mariners on Thursday afternoon in the decisive game of their three-game matchup.
Unfortunately, the Reds' four-game winning streak came to an end on Wednesday as they fell to the Mariners by a score of 5-3.
The Mariners come into Thursday's game with an impressive record of five wins in their last six games. They have also dominated the all-time series against the Reds, leading with a record of 20-6.
In Wednesday's game, there was a controversial call made by plate umpire Chris Segal in the eighth inning. Segal ruled batter's interference on the Reds' Austin Hays, resulting in a strikeout and also wiping out a stolen base by Elly De La Cruz. This automatically called De La Cruz out for the second out of the inning, with the Reds trailing by two runs.
Reds manager Terry Francona commented on the situation, stating, "Because of the situation of the game, you kind of go out there and you want to yell, and he gave me a good explanation. I kind of appreciated he didn't (insult) me. He said, 'I know it (stinks)' because Elly was safe easily, but (Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh) had to alter his throw because (Hays') body came across the plate."
Francona also mentioned that he went back and reviewed the play, and although it was a tough call, he respected the way Segal handled it.
The Reds had a strong showing in the seventh inning, scoring three runs and then leading off the eighth with a single by De La Cruz.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson, who played for both teams in the 1990s, commented on the interference play, saying, "That was a big play, no doubt, and that's a play that doesn't get called very often. I feel like it should get called more, but it really looked like it doesn't need to have contact. It just needs to impede the throw, and it clearly did. A big turnaround for us."
In Wednesday's game, Raleigh hit two home runs from both sides of the plate, bringing his career total to 100 and his season total to seven.
Originally, the Mariners had planned to start right-hander Bryan Woo in the series finale, but he has since been moved to Friday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays. Instead, the Mariners will be recalling right-hander Emerson Hancock (0-1, 81.00 ERA) from Triple-A Tacoma to make his second start of the season. In his first start, Hancock gave up six runs on seven hits in just two outs against the Detroit Tigers on March 31.
Hancock will be facing the Reds for the first time in his career.
The Reds will have right-hander Brady Singer (3-0, 3.18) on the mound for Thursday's game. In his three starts this season, the Reds have scored a total of 30 runs and Singer has earned the win in all three outings. This will be Singer's sixth career start and seventh appearance against the Mariners, with a record of 1-2 and an ERA of 3.60 in those games.
