The Vancouver Whitecaps transferred forward Sergio Cordova to Turkish club Alanyaspor.

The Whitecaps will reserve a portion of future transfer fees. The specifics of the agreement declared Friday were not revealed.

The 26-year-old Venezuelan began 14 of 26 appearances in all competitions, including nine of 19 MLS matches. He notched four goals and one assist.

He moved to Vancouver from German side FC Augsburg in February.

"Over the past couple weeks, there's been augmented interest in Sergio from clubs abroad, which is a tribute to him," Whitecaps sporting director Axel Schuster said in a statement. "We obtained an offer from Alanyaspor that matched what we were looking for and it was also an opportunity that Sergio was interested in pursuing."

The transfer opens a designated player slot for the 2024 MLS season. Vancouver's other DPs are captain Ryan Gauld and defensive midfielder Andres Cubas.
