"Kyle Larson's Indy 500 practice concludes with collision"

'Kyle Larson's trial run at Indy 500 concludes with accident'

Kyle Larson is aiming to be the initial competitor to participate in both the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 on the same day since 2014. However, on Thursday, his pursuit encountered a setback when he collided with the wall during an IndyCar testing session at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

In the morning session, Larson veered out of Turn 1 and struck the wall with the right side of his car, then briefly departed from the track before sliding and hitting the wall again shortly after.

Fortunately, Larson emerged from the crash unharmed and was examined and released by IndyCar Medical.

"I am relieved to have survived my first IndyCar crash," Larson stated on IndyCar's YouTube stream. "We will continue to work on it and strive to achieve a more comfortable balance. I just didn't have the necessary feeling yesterday and it carried over to today. I think it was more noticeable when I was going faster."

The Indy 500 has a multi-stage qualifying process, giving Larson another opportunity to recover and qualify for the race.

Last year, Larson attempted to compete in both races, but the rain-delayed Indy 500 prevented him from doing so. After finishing 18th in Indianapolis, Larson arrived at Charlotte Motor Speedway well after the race had already begun.

Cale Yarborough was the first driver to accomplish this feat, although not on the same day, successfully competing in both races in 1967.

Kurt Busch was the most recent to achieve this, accomplishing it in 2014. Other racers who have completed the same-day feat include John Andretti (1994), Robby Gordon (1997, 2000, 2002, 2004), and Tony Stewart (1999, 2001).
