Starting in 2029, the governing body of Formula 1, FIA, has announced that General Motors engines will now be available for use in races.

A new team, Cadillac F1, will be powered by GM engines and will begin racing in 2026. Before this, they will use Ferrari engines from 2026 to 2028.

Russ O'Blenes, CEO of GM Performance Power Units LLC, stated, "With the FIA's approval, we will continue to push forward in bringing an American-made F1 power unit to the grid."

Last year, FIA approved a GM bid proposed by Andretti, but it was rejected by F1. Now, GM has partnered with the Cadillac team and will be joining the races.

FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem said, "Although the process was challenging, the progress we see today proves it was worth it."

He also added, "Welcoming GM Performance Power Units LLC as an approved power unit supplier for the Championship starting in 2029 is another step in the global expansion of Formula 1 and shows the growing interest from top automotive manufacturers like General Motors."

GM has joined forces with TWG Motorsports to create TWG GM Performance Power Units LLC. According to ESPN, the company will invest $150 million in development and testing, which will move to GM's Charlotte Technical Center next year.
