F1, Italian Grand Prix extend contract through 2031
The Italian Grand Prix will remain on the Formula One schedule until at least 2031 following a six-year contract extension between the parties.
The agreement was announced by the governing body on Wednesday, following recent upgrades to the Monza track. The race, won by Ferrari's Charles Leclerc on September 1, drew a crowd of 335,000 spectators.
Stefano Domenicali, president and CEO of F1, expressed his delight at the news, stating, "I am thrilled that the Italian Grand Prix will continue to be a part of the calendar until 2031. Monza holds a special place in the history of Formula 1 and the atmosphere created by the passionate Tifosi is truly unique."
The Autodromo Nazionale Monza, also known as The Temple of Speed, was established in 1922 and has been a staple on the F1 circuit ever since.
Five current F1 drivers - Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton, Pierre Gasly, Max Verstappen, and Leclerc - have all tasted victory at Monza.
In 2020, Hamilton set a new record for the fastest lap in F1 history on the Monza track, with an average speed of 264.362 kilometers per hour (164.2 miles).
