Sharks Acquire D Ty Emberson from Oilers in Exchange for D Cody Ceci
The San Jose Sharks have traded defenseman Cody Ceci and a 2025 third-round draft pick to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Ty Emberson.
The trade was announced by both teams on Sunday evening.
Emberson, who was drafted by the Arizona Coyotes in 2018, made his NHL debut last season with the Sharks. In 30 games, he recorded one goal, nine assists, 46 blocks, and 94 hits.
Ceci, on the other hand, had a productive season with the Oilers, tallying 25 points (five goals, 20 assists) in 79 games. The 30-year-old has played for four teams in his career, including the Ottawa Senators, Toronto Maple Leafs, Pittsburgh Penguins, and now Edmonton.
Sharks general manager Mike Grier praised Ceci's skills, calling him a "solid, competitive veteran defenseman" with a well-rounded skill set and extensive playoff experience. In 88 career Stanley Cup playoff games, Ceci has recorded 19 points (four goals, 15 assists).
The 2012 first-round draft pick by Ottawa adds depth and experience to the Sharks' defensive lineup.
