"Alexis Lafreniere of the Rangers signs 7-year contract: 'I adore playing for this team'"

Alexis Lafreniere, a forward for the New York Rangers, was beaming with joy as he sat in front of his locker on Saturday morning, just one day after signing a seven-year contract extension.

The Rangers did not disclose the financial details of the deal on Friday, but according to TSN, it is worth $52.15 million. The contract will start in the 2025-26 season and run through the 2031-32 season.

"It's fantastic. It's a lengthy contract," Lafreniere expressed. "I absolutely love playing here, so it's a great opportunity for me to stay for a significant amount of time."

Lafreniere reiterated on Saturday that he is excited to shift his focus back to matters on the ice now that contract negotiations are over. Prior to Friday's agreement, he was set to become a restricted free agent in July after completing the final season of his two-year, $4.65 million contract that he signed in August 2023.

At 23 years old, Lafreniere has accumulated seven points (four goals, three assists) in seven games this season.

Since being selected as the first overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft by the Rangers, he has tallied a total of 155 points (79 goals, 76 assists) in 305 games.
