"Playoffs: Capitals' D Martin Fehervary sidelined with knee injury"

"Knee Injury Sidelines Capitals' D Martin Fehervary for Postseason"

The Washington Capitals will be without defenseman Martin Fehervary for the rest of the playoffs due to meniscus surgery, the team announced on Tuesday.

Fehervary, 25, suffered the injury to his right knee during a game against the New York Islanders on April 15. He underwent surgery on Monday.

Capitals coach Spencer Carbery expressed his sympathy for Fehervary's absence, calling him an "unsung hero" for the team. He also noted that Fehervary's contributions may go unnoticed by the rest of the hockey world, but he is a crucial part of the Capitals.

This season, Fehervary achieved career-highs in assists (20), points (25), and plus/minus rating (plus-18) in 81 games.

Since being drafted by the Capitals in the second round of the 2018 NHL Draft, Fehervary has accumulated 75 points (22 goals, 53 assists) and a plus-13 rating in 299 career games.

In Fehervary's absence, the Capitals will rely on Alex Alexeyev, Ethan Bear, and Dylan McIlrath to step up. The team currently leads 1-0 in their first-round series against the Montreal Canadiens, with Game 2 taking place on Wednesday.

Carbery acknowledged that injuries are the worst part of the game, especially during the most important time of the year. However, he has confidence in his team's ability to fill the void left by Fehervary's absence.
