"Oilers lose two RFAs to Blues in trade"

The Blues have acquired defenseman Philip Broberg and forward Dylan Holloway after the Edmonton Oilers chose not to match the offer sheets presented by St. Louis last week.

The restricted free agents will now join the Blues, while the Oilers will receive the Blues' second- and third-round picks in the 2025 draft. Edmonton confirmed on Tuesday that they would not match the offers and also completed a separate trade for defenseman Doug Fischer and the Blues' third-round pick in 2028.

Broberg has signed a two-year contract worth $9.16 million, resulting in the Oilers receiving the Blues' second-round pick. Meanwhile, Holloway, who was offered a two-year deal worth $4.58 million, cost the Blues their 2025 third-round pick.

Anticipating that the Oilers would not match, the Blues made a deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins to secure the necessary picks. The Blues traded their 2026 second-round pick and the Ottawa Senators' 2025 third-round pick to the Penguins in exchange for a 2025 second-round pick and a 2026 fifth-round pick from Pittsburgh.

The 2025 second-round pick originally belonged to the Blues, who had traded it to the Penguins for forward Kevin Hayes on June 29.

Broberg was selected by the Oilers with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2019 draft and has played in 81 regular-season games, recording two goals and 11 assists. He has also appeared in 20 playoff games.

Holloway, on the other hand, was the No. 14 overall pick in the 2020 draft and has played in 89 regular-season games, tallying nine goals and nine assists. In 25 games during the 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs, the 22-year-old scored seven points (five goals, two assists).
