Nathan MacKinnon of Avalanche (unspecified) sidelined against Canucks

Nathan MacKinnon of Avalanche will not play against Canucks due to undisclosed injury

Nathan MacKinnon, the standout forward for the Colorado Avalanche, will be absent from Thursday's match against the Vancouver Canucks in Denver, and is also expected to miss the team's final two regular season games, according to head coach Jared Bednar.

MacKinnon, who is currently dealing with an undisclosed injury, is currently tied with Nikita Kucherov of the Tampa Bay Lightning in the race for the Art Ross Trophy, with 116 points.

The reigning recipient of the Hart Trophy, MacKinnon has been leading the NHL this season with 84 assists in 79 games.

The Avalanche, who currently have a record of 48-27-4 and 100 points, are likely to finish in third place in the Central Division. They will then face either the Dallas Stars or the Winnipeg Jets in the first round of the playoffs.

At 29 years old, MacKinnon played in all 82 games for the Avalanche last season, setting career highs with 51 goals, 89 assists, and a franchise-record 140 points.

Since being selected as the top overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft by the Colorado Avalanche, MacKinnon has accumulated 1,015 points (367 goals, 648 assists) in 870 career games.
