"Montreal's Kaiden Guhle (thigh) sidelined indefinitely"

The Montreal Canadiens' defenseman Kaiden Guhle will be absent for an undetermined amount of time after undergoing surgery to fix a torn quadricep muscle, the team announced on Wednesday.

Guhle was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday, a day after sustaining the injury when his legs got tangled and he fell into the boards during the Canadiens' 4-1 defeat against the Winnipeg Jets.

\"Where will we feel the absence of Guhle? I believe it will be everywhere,\" stated Canadiens' coach Martin St. Louis after Wednesday's practice. \"He plays a significant amount of minutes during 5-on-5 play and is a key player on the penalty kill. I don't think there is one specific area, but his presence will definitely be missed. However, it won't be just one player that can replace him.\"

Guhle, who signed a six-year, $33.3 million contract extension before the season, has accumulated 14 points (four goals, 10 assists) and has averaged 21:14 of ice time in 44 games.

The 23-year-old Guhle has a total of 54 points (14 goals, 40 assists) in 158 career games since being selected as the 16th overall pick by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2020 NHL Draft.

In addition, defenseman Jayden Struble was called up from the Laval of the American Hockey League on Wednesday. Struble has five points (two goals, three assists) in 26 games with the Canadiens this season.
