'Hurricanes extend 2-year contract with C Martin Necas'

Carolina's Martin Necas, who had submitted for salary arbitration on July 5, avoided a hearing by agreeing to a two-year, $13 million deal with the Hurricanes on Monday.
Necas, 25, was a restricted free agent after a 53-point campaign (24 goals, 29 assists) in 77 games for Carolina last season. He also tallied nine points (four goals, five assists) in 11 playoff games.
\"Martin is an incredibly skilled player who poses a scoring threat every time he touches the puck,\" stated Hurricanes general manager Eric Tulsky. \"He will play a crucial role in the continued success of our franchise, and we are thrilled to have secured a multiyear contract.\"
Selected 12th overall by Carolina in the 2017 draft, Necas has accumulated 243 points (97 goals, 146 assists) in 362 regular-season NHL appearances. He has also recorded 30 points (11 goals, 19 assists) in 59 playoff games.
With Necas now signed, the Hurricanes' only remaining restricted free agent is 22-year-old forward Seth Jarvis. A first-round pick in the 2020 draft, Jarvis set career highs in goals (33), assists (34), and points (67) in 81 games last season. He also contributed nine points (five goals, four assists) in 11 playoff games.
In 231 NHL games, Jarvis has amassed 146 points (64 goals, 82 assists), along with an additional 27 points (13 goals, 14 assists) in 40 playoff appearances.
Tulsky commented on Jarvis' contract situation, stating, \"It's possible we will agree on a short-term deal and then a longer-term one later. It's also possible we will negotiate a long-term contract now. There are many ways to get it done, but there is no doubt that he will be with us for the long haul. It's just a matter of how the contract is structured to make that happen.\"
