The Minnesota Wild inked a new deal with sophomore defenseman Brock Faber on Monday, extending his contract for eight years and a total of $68 million.

This extension, with an average yearly value of $8.5 million, will take effect in the 2025-26 season. Faber, who is currently in the final year of his rookie contract, will earn $925,000 this season. The extension will keep him with the Wild until the 2032-33 season.

In his first year with the team, 21-year-old Faber recorded 47 points (eight goals, 39 assists) in 82 games. He led all rookies in both time on ice (24:58) and blocked shots (150), and also ranked first in assists, tied for second in points, and third in power-play assists, according to the Wild.

Faber was drafted in the second round by the Los Angeles Kings in 2020, but was traded to Minnesota in June 2022 in exchange for Kevin Fiala.

He made his NHL debut in April 2023, playing in the Wild's final two regular-season games. He also appeared in all six of the team's playoff games during the 2023 postseason.
