Blues to Terminate Contract with Brandon Saad

Blues to End Contract with Brandon Saad

The St. Louis Blues will put forward Brandon Saad on unconditional waivers on Thursday in order to terminate his contract, as announced by the team.

Saad, who is 32 years old, was placed on waivers by the Blues on Tuesday and cleared on Wednesday. He will not be sent to the team's affiliate in Springfield of the American Hockey League.

He is currently in the fourth year of a five-year, $22.5 million deal. According to TSN, the Blues will be relieved of Saad's $4.5 million cap hit once the contract is terminated.

This season, Saad has recorded 16 points (seven goals, nine assists) and six penalty minutes in 43 games.

"Obviously the production is lacking," stated Blues general manager Doug Armstrong on Tuesday. "... There's a group that has been here for a while and things don't seem to be changing. As a collective, we need to start making progress."

Saad, a two-time Stanley Cup winner with the Chicago Blackhawks, has accumulated 515 points (260 goals, 255 assists) in 906 career games with the Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Colorado Avalanche, and Blues.
