Tony Finau aims to maintain positive momentum at 3M Open
Tony Finau achieved three consecutive top-10 finishes before failing to make the cut at the Open Championship last week.
Finau is determined to regain his form on Thursday as he competes at the 3M Open in Blaine, Minn.
This tournament is the second-to-last event before the PGA Tour\'s FedEx Cup Playoffs begin in Memphis. The top 70 players in the standings qualify for the first leg.
This will not be a problem for Finau, as he currently sits in 15th place. Prior to The Open, Finau had strong showings at the Memorial Tournament (T8), U.S. Open (T3) and Travelers Championship (T5).
However, Finau struggled at The Open at Royal Troon in Scotland, carding a 10-over 81 last Friday. This was largely due to a triple bogey on the front nine and a quadruple bogey on the back nine.
\"Yeah, my game feels pretty good,\" Finau stated on Tuesday. \"Unfortunately, I didn\'t get the result I wanted last week. The second round was extremely difficult and I didn\'t feel like I played poorly, I just had a couple of bad tee shots that cost me a lot of shots, which can happen in links golf.
\"Overall, I\'ve had a successful month and I hope to continue that good form this week.\"
Finau has had success at TPC Twin Cities in the past, winning the tournament in 2022 and achieving two other top-10 finishes in five consecutive appearances. In 2022, Finau overcame a five-stroke deficit with 11 holes to play, finishing at 17-under-par 267.
\"I love being here. It\'s a golf course that I really enjoy and I\'ve developed a great fan base here, so I always look forward to coming back and playing in front of them,\" said Finau, 34. \"It\'s always a positive experience whenever I\'m back here in Blaine and I\'m excited for another hopefully memorable week here.\"
Finau finished tied for seventh at the tournament last year, although he was nine strokes behind winner Lee Hodges.
\"Yeah, I just remember Lee playing incredible golf all week. I was in a position to try and catch him on the weekend, but every time I made a move, he seemed to make a birdie right after,\" he recalled. \"I had a solid week, but Lee Hodges was a deserving champion for his first win here last year.
\"And I know he\'s back this year to defend, so we have a strong field at the 3M this year and I\'m looking forward to the competition and striving to win another one of these events.\"
