Tiger Woods has back surgery
On Friday, Tiger Woods revealed that he had an operation to fix a compressed nerve in his lower back.
The 48-year-old golfer has not competed since failing to make the cut at the Open Championship in July.
In a statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, the 15-time major winner stated, "The surgery was successful and I am optimistic that it will relieve the back spasms and pain that I have been dealing with for most of the 2024 season. I am looking forward to rehab and getting back to my normal activities, including playing golf."
According to Woods, the surgery was performed by Dr. Sheeraz Qureshi at the Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Woods started his season at the Genesis Invitational in February, but had to withdraw during the second round due to illness.
He did make the cut at the Masters, extending his record-breaking streak of 24 consecutive starts, but finished last among the 60 players who played the weekend. However, he then missed the cut at the PGA Championship, U.S. Open, and The Open, where he never shot a round at or below par.
