Scottie Scheffler moves on from the past, sets sights on 3rd Masters victory

Scottie Scheffler moves on from the past, sets sights on 3rd Masters win

Although Scottie Scheffler's life has undergone changes since he clinched the final putt to win last year's Masters, he will maintain the same approach and remain open to adjustments as he prepares to defend his championship this week.

Aside from adding an Olympic gold medal and a FedEx Cup to his collection, the biggest change for Scheffler is that he became a father for the first time last spring.

\"When I come home at the end of the day, Bennett will still be doing pretty much the same things he always does when I get home,\" he said Tuesday of his young son. \"My work will not affect him and it will give me some perspective.\"

However, Scheffler's focus remains on winning a third green jacket after triumphing in two of the last three Masters.

\"I believe we are in for another fantastic tournament,\" he stated.

The next few days could bring unexpected twists, depending on the weather conditions at Augusta National. Monday's practice rounds were cut short due to heavy rain, and there are showers in the forecast for Friday's second round.

\"The strategy for this course changes depending on the conditions,\" Scheffler explained.

The World No. 1 had seven victories in 2024 but has yet to win this year. He suffered a hand injury at home in December, which required minor surgery and delayed the start of his season.

However, he is now comfortable with his current position.

\"When I step onto the first tee on Thursday, I will remind myself that I have done everything I need to do to play well, and now it's all about competing,\" Scheffler said. \"I try not to dwell on the past too much.\"

Scheffler has had some great moments at the Masters in the past. When asked about his most significant shot in his Masters career, he couldn't pinpoint one, as there have been several crucial shots.

\"It's difficult to determine my best shot because I feel like I have hit many important shots, especially on Sundays when I have won,\" he said.

However, those past victories do not give him any specific advantage this year, according to Scheffler.

\"Last year's win doesn't have much to do with this year,\" he said. \"However, I can draw on my experience of playing well on this course and use that to my advantage.\"

Scheffler played the front nine on Tuesday and planned to play the back nine on Wednesday to prepare for the tournament.

The past few months have been good preparation for Scheffler. He has had some promising starts in tournaments, but he doesn't consider any of them to be a great start.

He has trained himself to trust his game and how he feels about it, rather than focusing on specific results. This has given him a confident mindset heading into this week.

\"I feel very prepared for this tournament,\" he said. \"This is the most prepared I have felt all year.\"

Scheffler will tee off in the opening round at 10:15 a.m. on Thursday with Justin Thomas and reigning U.S. Amateur champion Jose Luis Ballester of Spain in his group.
