"Beau Hossler Dominates with Birdies to Secure Early Lead at Wyndham"

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Beau Hossler utilized a blazing start to his round, carding a 10-under-par 60 in the rain-delayed first round of the Wyndham Championship on Friday.

Hossler's attempt to shoot under 60 was thwarted by three consecutive pars on the final holes at the water-logged Sedgefield Country Club.

\"The highlight of my round was definitely my mid-irons,\" Hossler stated. \"I hit a few 6 irons really close, and my 5 iron almost went in for a hole-in-one. It was one of those days where everything seemed to go right.\"

Hossler currently holds a two-stroke lead over Billy Horschel, who is at 8 under with two holes remaining in his first round. Due to rain and darkness, the first round was postponed and will be completed on Saturday with several players still on the course.

Canada's Nick Taylor is alone in third place at 7 under through 14 holes. Taylor closed out his round with four birdies in his last five holes before play was halted.

Heavy rain and local flooding caused by remnants of Hurricane Debby resulted in a three-hour delay to the start of Friday's round as course maintenance crews worked to prepare the grounds for play.

A number of golfers will need to finish their first round on Saturday and then immediately begin their second round.

Hossler began his round with a blazing start, shooting 7 under through the first eight holes, including a tap-in eagle on the par-5 fifth hole. He set a personal best with a 28 on the front nine.

After a birdie on No. 10, Hossler was on pace for a historic round before a bogey on No. 11. He quickly bounced back with a birdie on No. 12, needing only a 1-foot putt after his tee shot on the par-3 hole.

Hossler's tee shot on No. 18 landed in the left rough, making it difficult for him to make a birdie.

\"There was no way I could get it on that shelf to have a good look,\" he explained.

The 29-year-old has yet to win in 197 previous events since joining the PGA Tour in 2018.

Matt Kuchar, Brendon Todd, Austin Eckroat, and England's Ben Taylor all finished at 6-under 64 to tie for fourth place. Kuchar closed out his round with four consecutive birdies (Nos. 14-17) for a 5-under 30 on the back nine.

\"Playing lift, clean, and place allowed me to pick and choose my lies, hit some good shots, and make some putts,\" Kuchar said.

This tournament is the final event of the PGA Tour's regular season. It is the last opportunity for players to move into the top 70 spots and qualify for the FedExCup playoffs, which begin next week.

Harris English withdrew on Friday due to a back injury, and Kevin Tway took his spot in the field.
