Pittsburgh Steelers to Acquire 2 Quarterbacks; Aaron Rodgers' Status Will Not Impact Draft Strategy

The Pittsburgh Steelers' general manager, Omar Khan, discussed the team's quarterback situation on Tuesday, stating that they plan to add two new signal callers to their roster.
Currently, the team has Mason Rudolph, a former Steeler returning from a season with the Tennessee Titans, and Skylar Thompson, a former backup for the Miami Dolphins, on their roster.
Khan said, "I know you'll ask about the quarterback position. I'll just reiterate what we discussed a couple of weeks ago at the league meetings in Palm Beach. We will go into training camp with four quarterbacks. Right now, we have two on the roster. We are considering all options for acquiring the last two. Rest assured, we will have four when we reach Latrobe for training camp."
When asked about the uncertainty surrounding free-agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers and how it may affect the team's approach to the NFL draft, head coach Mike Tomlin replied, "It does not."
The Steelers hold the 21st overall pick in the first round of the draft. If they were to select a quarterback, it could potentially impact Rodgers' situation.
Tomlin added, "I think what we do in the draft can sometimes affect the talent we acquire afterwards. We will see how things go this weekend."
Last season, Russell Wilson and Justin Fields were the starting quarterbacks for the Steelers, but both signed with New York teams in free agency - Wilson with the Giants and Fields with the Jets.
Rodgers, who is 41 years old, threw for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns with the New York Jets in 2024, returning from an Achilles injury that ended his 2023 season after just one game.
The 10-time Pro Bowl selection currently ranks fifth in NFL history for touchdown passes (503) and seventh for passing yards (62,952).
