'Panthers Tight End Ja'Tavion Sanders Returns to Team Following Injury Scare'
Panthers tight end Ja\'Tavion Sanders returned to the squad on Monday following a scare during Sunday's defeat against the Kansas City Chiefs.
According to Carolina coach Dave Canales, Sanders was present at the facility the day after being taken off the field on a stretcher and transported to the hospital for further examination. Canales stated that the team and medical staff are still in the process of evaluating the extent of the injury.
Canales also mentioned that Sanders was fortunate to avoid a severe injury.
During the second quarter of Sunday's game, Sanders was tackled near the sideline after making a 10-yard catch and landed on his helmet. He was attended to by the team's medical staff and then taken off the field on a cart with 40 seconds remaining in the first half. He was later released from Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte after being observed.
The 21-year-old rookie from Texas had three receptions for 49 yards in the first half, leading the Panthers in receiving. In 11 games this season, Sanders has recorded 29 receptions for 302 yards and one touchdown, ranking fourth on the team.
Sanders was chosen in the fourth round of the NFL draft in April.
