'LB Shaq Barrett requests to return from retirement'
Shaq Barrett, a linebacker who has been selected for the Pro Bowl twice, desires to make a comeback to the football field.
According to Barrett's agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey, their client has applied for reinstatement and is hoping to be cleared for an immediate return to playing.
This news comes after Barrett announced his retirement from the NFL five months ago. However, the Miami Dolphins still hold his contractual rights as he had signed a one-year, $9 million contract in March.
Barrett, who was not drafted after playing for Colorado State in 2014, has participated in 131 games (85 as a starter) over nine seasons in the NFL with the Denver Broncos (2014-2018) and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2019-2023).
Throughout his career, the 31-year-old has accumulated 400 tackles (73 for loss), 59 sacks, 22 forced fumbles, and three interceptions.
His most impressive season was in 2019 with the Buccaneers, where he led the NFL with 19.5 sacks and earned his first Pro Bowl selection. He also received a Pro Bowl nod in 2021 after recording 10 sacks.
Barrett has won two Super Bowls, one with the Broncos in 2015 and another with the Buccaneers in 2020.
