Kirk Cousins Participates in Falcons' Optional Training Sessions Amid Unclear Prospects

Amid uncertainty about his future, Kirk Cousins showed up for the first day of the Atlanta Falcons' offseason workouts, according to multiple reports on Tuesday.
This decision was unexpected, as Falcons head coach Raheem Morris had anticipated Cousins skipping the voluntary program.
"I don't expect him to attend voluntary work," Morris said at the league meeting. "I won't be surprised if he's not there. If he does show up, we'll welcome him. But I won't let myself get upset or angry about Kirk Cousins missing voluntary workouts."
The experienced quarterback is seeking a release to pursue a starting position in 2025, but the Falcons may keep him as a backup to Michael Penix Jr.
Atlanta is also willing to entertain offers for Cousins, but sources suggest that the team would require any trade partner to take on some of his guaranteed money.
The Falcons signed Cousins to a four-year, $180 million contract with $100 million guaranteed before the 2024 season. They then drafted Penix with the eighth overall pick in the draft and benched Cousins for him midway through the 2024 season.
Penix is currently the team's top quarterback heading into the new season. The Falcons also signed free agent Easton Stick on Monday, and 2024 undrafted free agent Emory Jones is also on the depth chart.
