'Jets Keep Ex-GMs in Charge of Coach and GM Hunt'
Former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum and his associates are assisting owner Woody Johnson in the search for a new coach and general manager to lead the team in 2025.
Tannenbaum and former Vikings GM Rick Spielman are spearheading the hiring process at Johnson's request as the Jets continue to struggle. Head coach Robert Saleh was fired on October 8th and interim coach Jeff Ulbrich has a record of 1-5 with three close losses.
Phil Savage, former Senior Bowl director and one-time Browns GM, is currently serving as interim general manager after Johnson fired Joe Douglas last week.
Tannenbaum, now 55, joined the Jets in 1997 as a salary cap expert and became GM in 2006. He was let go in 2012 before taking on the same role with the Dolphins. Tannenbaum currently works as an NFL analyst and oversees the 33rd Team, which has also been involved in college coaching searches.
Spielman served as an advisor for the Washington Commanders last year, where they hired 49ers assistant GM Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn. This pairing has helped Washington make a push for the playoffs. Spielman has previously been GM for the Dolphins (2004) and Vikings (2012-2021).
