"Darius Slay, Eagles' CB, expresses regret for remark about Brazil"
Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay expressed regret on social media for his remarks made last week regarding the team's season opener in Brazil.
"I would like to extend my apologies to anyone who may have been offended, as that was not my intention," Slay shared on X on Tuesday, just before the Eagles embarked on their 10-hour flight from Philadelphia to Sao Paulo, Brazil. The Eagles are set to kick off their season against the Green Bay Packers on Friday night in the Brazilian city.
"I am eagerly anticipating the opportunity to play in your beautiful country and I have heard that the fans are just as passionate as our incredible Eagles fans. Just a few more days, I cannot wait!!!"
This statement stands in stark contrast to what the six-time Pro Bowl selection said about Brazil last week on his "Big Play Slay" podcast. Slay, 33, expressed concerns about the country's high crime rate and advised his family not to join him on the trip.
"Man, I really do not want to go to Brazil," Slay stated. "They have already warned us not to leave the hotel. ... NFL, why would you send us to a place with such a high crime rate?"
