The Los Angeles Rams have declared that star wide receiver Cooper Kupp will not be playing in their Week 5 match against the Green Bay Packers, according to coach Sean McVay's announcement on Monday.

Kupp suffered a sprained left ankle in Week 2 and has been absent from the field since then. However, the Rams chose not to place him on injured reserve, which would have meant he would have to miss four games. With the team's bye week in Week 6, Kupp will have only missed three games if he returns in Week 7.

McVay had previously stated that the Rams were running out of spots on injured reserve for players who could potentially return. The team's other top receiver, Puka Nacua, was placed on IR after the season opener.

Kupp, who was named Offensive Player of the Year in 2021, had 18 catches on 27 targets for 147 yards and a touchdown in the first two games of this season. Since joining the Rams as a third-round draft pick in 2017, he has accumulated 585 receptions for 7,213 yards and 52 touchdowns.

In regards to other Rams players on IR, the team plans to open the 21-day practice windows for injured cornerback Darious Williams and defensive tackle Larrell Murchison.

McVay stated, "I don't want to put any unnecessary timeline on those guys, but I know they're making good progress. I think playing football and simulating some of the settings that occur in practice are going to be the best indicators. But they're making good progress. That certainly isn't something I would rule out - the possibility of them going."
