Cleveland's linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah will not be playing in Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Chargers at home due to a neck injury, as confirmed by Browns coach Kevin Stefanski on Wednesday.

Stefanski also mentioned that cornerback Denzel Ward is currently day to day as he goes through the concussion protocol. Ward did not participate in practice on Wednesday.

Both players sustained injuries in the third quarter of last Sunday's 29-24 victory against the Baltimore Ravens at home.

Owusu-Koramoah was taken off the field on a cart after colliding with Baltimore's running back Derrick Henry. The linebacker's head and neck were hit by Henry's right shoulder during a 10-yard run.

Owusu-Koramoah was brought to a nearby hospital and stayed overnight before being discharged on Monday.

Stefanski stated, "He was here today. He's home now. He's improving, but we have no further updates at this time."

Owusu-Koramoah, who will turn 25 on Monday, has started in all eight games and has recorded 61 tackles, three sacks, 10 tackles for loss, and four quarterback hits - the highest on the team.

Browns cornerback Greg Newsome II praised Owusu-Koramoah, saying, "I think he's the best linebacker in the entire NFL. So, losing a guy like that is definitely very hard. But we have players who stepped up in those moments - like Mohamoud Diabate who played incredibly well. We also have Winston Reid. We have a lot of players who can fill that void as best as they can. It's definitely difficult to replace someone like JOK, he's one of a kind."

The Browns drafted Owusu-Koramoah in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft from Notre Dame. He has accumulated 308 tackles, eight sacks, 50 tackles for loss, 14 quarterback hits, three interceptions, and six forced fumbles in 49 games (41 starts). Owusu-Koramoah had a career-high of 101 tackles in 16 games (13 starts) last season and was selected for his first Pro Bowl.

Ward, who is 27 years old, was the fourth overall pick in the 2018 draft. The Ohio State alum has started in all eight games this season and has recorded 15 tackles and a league-leading 12 passes defensed.

This marks the sixth documented concussion Ward has sustained in his seven seasons in the NFL.

Ward has a total of 288 tackles, 15 interceptions - including two returned for touchdowns, 88 passes defensed, three forced fumbles, and five fumble recoveries - two of which were returned for TDs - in 87 games (84 starts).
