"Cardinals' Newcomer Darius Robinson (calf) Expected to Be Out for Several Weeks, According to Report"
The Arizona Cardinals' new defensive lineman, Darius Robinson, will be sidelined for several weeks due to a calf injury, as reported by NFL Network on Saturday.
Robinson sustained the injury during Thursday's practice, which was confirmed by coach Jonathan Gannon on Friday. The team is currently awaiting results from imaging tests.
A standout player at Missouri, Robinson was the Cardinals' second pick in the first round (27th overall) of the 2024 NFL Draft, following Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. who was selected fourth overall.
On the Cardinals' depth chart, Robinson is listed as second behind starting defensive tackles Bilal Nichols and Justin Jones.
Arizona may take advantage of a new rule and place Robinson on injured reserve before all NFL teams must cut their current rosters from 91 down to 53 by 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday. In previous years, players on injured reserve before the 53-player roster were out for the entire season. However, this year teams can designate up to two players on IR at the 53-player cutdown as eligible to return during the season.
These two players, or any players placed on IR after the cutdown, must miss a minimum of four games. This could potentially fit into the Cardinals' plans for Robinson.
The Cardinals' first game of the season is on September 8 against the Buffalo Bills.
