'Cardinals' CB Patrick Peterson Announces Retirement from NFL'

Legendary cornerback Patrick Peterson announced his retirement from the NFL on Monday, ending his impressive career as an Arizona Cardinal.

The 34-year-old Peterson made the announcement at the Cardinals' practice facility in Tempe, where he was honored with a highlight video and tributes from former teammates such as Larry Fitzgerald and Carson Palmer.

\"I have returned to where it all began. It only feels right to end my journey where it started,\" said Peterson.

Selected by the Cardinals as the fifth overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft from LSU, Peterson spent 10 of his 13 seasons with the team and earned eight consecutive Pro Bowl selections.

During his time with the Cardinals, Peterson recorded 28 interceptions, 91 passes defended, and 499 tackles in 154 games. He also had two forced fumbles, 12 fumble recoveries, and four sacks.

However, his departure from the team in 2021 was not without controversy. After requesting a trade and then retracting it, Peterson signed with the Minnesota Vikings in 2021. He then joined the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2023 and played in 17 games before being released in 2024.

Despite the ups and downs, Peterson considers Arizona his home and where his legacy began.

In his two seasons with the Vikings, Peterson had six interceptions, 20 passes defended, and 111 tackles in 30 starts. He then played in 17 games for the Steelers, recording two interceptions, 11 passes defended, and 42 tackles.

Peterson was also named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame's All-2010s team.

In his 201 career games, Peterson had 36 interceptions, 122 passes defended, and 652 tackles. He also had two forced fumbles, 12 fumble recoveries, and four sacks.

According to reports, Peterson's retirement is retroactive to 2024, making him eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2029.
