'Broncos ink $96M contract with CB Patrick Surtain II'
On Wednesday, Patrick Surtain ll officially joined the Denver Broncos after signing a four-year contract. The value of the deal, which is rumored to be $96 million, would make Surtain the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history.
According to reports, the contract includes $77.5 million in guarantees. This surpasses the annual average value of other top cornerbacks like Jaire Alexander of the Green Bay Packers and Antoine Winfield Jr. of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Last season, former Broncos safety Justin Simmons praised Surtain as the team's best player. General manager George Paton also emphasized Surtain's importance to the organization, stating that they want him to stay for a long time.
Surtain, who was drafted ninth overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, signed a four-year, $20.9 million contract. The team exercised his fifth-year option worth $19.8 million earlier this year.
The 24-year-old cornerback has already been selected to two Pro Bowls and was named a first-team All-Pro in 2022. In his three seasons in the NFL, Surtain has played in 50 games, starting in 49 of them. He has recorded 187 tackles, seven interceptions, one touchdown, and 36 passes defensed.
