'Brian Daboll Addresses the Struggles of the 2-6 Giants: 'Confronting the Issues Directly'
The head coach of the New York Giants, Brian Daboll, acknowledges that there is growing frustration within and around the team's complex as they have fallen to a 2-6 record and are currently on a three-game losing streak.
Since their surprising win against Seattle in Week 5, the Giants have been outscored 71-28 in their losses to Cincinnati, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh. They currently have a scoring margin of minus-58 and are only ahead of the 1-7 Carolina Panthers in the NFC.
Daboll stated, "You must confront the issues head on and work to fix them. Consistency is key. While there will be ups and downs, it is important to remain consistent in leadership, communication, and focus on improving and preparing for the upcoming week. I have a lot of respect for the players and coaches, and they are all doing their best."
One of the sources of frustration for fans is the Giants' 0-4 record at home, with their only competitive game being a 20-15 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 4. However, they have a chance to turn things around with five of their next six games being played at MetLife Stadium.
Their home stretch begins with a game against the Washington Commanders on Sunday, followed by the Panthers and then the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after their Week 11 bye.
Currently, the Giants have the 26th-ranked offense and 23rd-ranked passing game in the league, and they are second to last in scoring, averaging only 14.6 points per game.
Daboll commented, "We need to continue to work hard and execute in order to move the ball and score points. The offensive line has given up 26 sacks so far this season, and the injury to left tackle Andrew Thomas has only magnified the pass protection issues. Backup Joshua Ezeudu missed practice on Wednesday due to a knee issue, but Daboll expects him to play on Sunday."
The status of rookie running back Tyrone Tracy, who is currently in the league's concussion protocol, is still uncertain. Tracy has been a bright spot for the offense, averaging 5.2 yards per carry and leading the team with 376 rushing yards. He also had a season-long run of 45 yards against the Steelers.
Daboll added, "Big plays like that can help us move the ball and get into scoring position. We just need to capitalize on those opportunities once we get there."
