A 17-year-old accused in the shooting of San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall is set to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon.

Pearsall was shot in the chest on Saturday in San Francisco's Union Square during an alleged robbery attempt. Pearsall fought back and the suspect was also injured.

The suspect, who hails from Tracy, California, is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and attempted second-degree robbery.

District attorney Brooke Jenkins stated that prosecutors will request that the suspect be held in custody due to the "public safety risk posed." The charges will be filed in juvenile court, but Jenkins may request a hearing to determine if the teenager will be tried as an adult.

Pearsall, the 49ers' first-round draft pick in April, was released from the hospital on Sunday and did not suffer any nerve or organ damage, according to general manager John Lynch.

At the time of the shooting, Pearsall was shopping for luggage after an autograph session.

On Tuesday, Lynch announced that Pearsall, who will turn 24 next week, is back with the team and doing well. He was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list on Monday and will miss at least the first four games of the season. However, Lynch's main concern was Pearsall's well-being.

"It's nothing short of miraculous that he came out of this as well as he did," Lynch said.

Pearsall is eager to rejoin his teammates on the field.

"I think one of his first concerns was when he could play," Lynch said.

"First and foremost," he added, "we're going to make sure he's fully recovered and ready to go."
